Why Not Dress Up As a Barbarian This Holiday?

Bad BarbarianDid you know that barbarians often wore whatever odd pieces of armor they could acquire by killing previous owners. Since the better the armor, the less likely the barbarian was of killing the previous owner, most barbarian armor was of poor qualify.

Hardened leather armor was commonly worn, as it was fairly ineffective and thus easily acquired. Most barbarians wore some sort of metal or leather bracers on their forearms, which they often used as a rudimentary shield while fighting. Barbarians considered bracers to be more effective than shields because they did not tie up the use of a hand, and yet still provided some protection when the braced arm was raised in defense.

Most barbarians were also heavily, and poorly, tattooed. Most of the designs they wore were mystic runes or arcane symbols of power from religions best not known. They strongly believed that these tattoos protected them from sorcerous harm and also gave a modicum of protection from poisons, snakebites, stray Barbarian Man Plus Size Costumearrows, falling rocks and disease.

Every barbarian wore a necklace of some sort too. These were often finely constructed chains of some valuable metal, horribly at odds with everything else the barbarian owned, stolen from a wealthy merchant or nobleman. Sometimes they were simple leather lacings tied about a small pouch of meaningful objects, such as eagle claws, gemstones, or a tooth from a particularly difficult conquest. But whether it was a simple leather thong or a an exquisitely crafted golden chain, whether it held a basilisk’s fang or a king’s ransom in gemstones, every barbarian had a necklace of some sort.

Lastly, since hygiene wasn’t a big issue to the barbarians, they almost always had long hair and beards too. And since combing wasn’t a big priority either their hair was often pretty unruly. If you need help achieving this crazy maned look you might want to check out this untamed hair wig – made for men or women to wear.
